The Online Shipping Master’s Degree programme is ideal for achieving a high caliber career in the ship management industry.
Developed specifically as a distance learning program, it is designed to meet the needs of graduates, maritime professionals and seafarers who are unable to attend regular taught classes, but wish to obtain an in-depth knowledge of the managerial operations of Ship Management companies. Our Masters degree in Shipping was the first Masters degree in Europe focusing in the art of Ship Management, an art which we aim to pass on to the next generation of maritime Managers.

Optional internship in Greece for top 1% scorers

For the Academic Years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, all applicants that meet the qualifications and requirements for BCA’s online MSc in Shipping course, may select one of the following enrollment periods:

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY
Based on the Programme Specification, students are formally assessed through the submission of coursework. The forms of coursework depend on the characteristics of each module and may include the following types
of assessments: case study, essay, report, dissertation, market analysis,project output, valuation, etc.
In addition each module incorporates multiple self-assessment tests. Selfassessment tests are not part of the formal assessment but completion is strongly encouraged as students will be able to monitor and evaluate their learning process and identify areas requiring improvement.
INTERMEDIATE AWARD
Postgraduate Certificate in Shipping – 60 credits
Postgraduate Diploma in Shipping -120 credits
FINAL AWARD
A Degree in MSc Shipping – 180 credits
As per university regulations.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
In order to be considered for admission in the Online MSc Shipping programme, it is essential that applicants fulfil the following:
Entry Requirements
Applicants can be admitted to the course if they possess a second-class honours degree from a UK University, or a Ptychion of 6.0 and above from an AEI University or a Ptychion of 7.0 and above from a former TEI University, or a Bachelor from an American University with GPA 2.75 and above or a degree from a Merchant Marine Academy or equivalent qualification from a recognised higher education institution (accredited University, College).
Non-Standard Applications
Applicants for the course will normally be expected to meet all entry requirements of the programme. When an applicant narrowly fails to meet the programme’s entry requirements, they may still be considered for a conditional admission as non-standard applications.
We will also consider mature applicants without a first degree as non-standard applications, as long as they possess:
- the highest-grade certificate of competency (CoC) for unrestricted service as master mariner or chief engineer, or equivalent maritime qualifications
and - substantial relevant professional experience
- competence in English language, demonstrated by an internationally recognised standard test (see the full English language requirements below)
- computer competence (at least the ability to use Microsoft Office)
Applicants can sit through BCA’s online English test. See a sample test here. There is no need for a test if you possess one of the following:
- IELTS: a minimum score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component of the test)
- Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE): Pass at C1 level
- Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): C and above
- Cambridge English: First (FCE): B and above
- Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in
English (ECPE): P( Pass) and above - Pearson Academic (PTE): 53 (with a minimum score of 51 in each component of the test)
- BCA IELTS Placement Test : a minimum score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component of the test)
Other English language qualifications may be considered.
Working Experience:
Relevant experience may be considered accordingly (3 years of experience at managerial level in a shipping or shipping related company is normally required).
