Overview

The modules begins by introducing the Law of Carriage of Goods by Sea. Following that, the module examines what a contract of affreightment is and how it takes the form of either a charter party or a bill of lading. Furthermore, the obligations which are implied into such contracts are analyzed, concentrating on the concepts of seaworthiness, safe ports, deviation and reasonable dispatch.

As a next step, charter parties, both voyage and time, are thoroughly examined. Finally, the functions of the bills of lading are explored, followed by the Hague/Visby and the Rotterdam Rules.
